Sadako lived in Hiroshima when the U.S. dropped an atom bomb on the city. While she survived the blast, she later became ill from radiation poisoning. Her best friend reminded her of a Japanese legend that granted wishes if she folded one thousand paper cranes.
With hope and determination, Sadako began folding paper cranes. Since then, beautifully folded paper cranes have become a worldwide symbol of peace. If you would like to learn more about Sadako or origami -- please let Ms. Sendroff know.
