National Library Week falls this year during our Spring Break! It is unfortunate that we will miss out on the opportunity to engage in real time activities to celebrate libraries with students!
Hosted by the American Library Association, National Library Week is a time to celebrate our nation's libraries of all kinds (school, public, academic and special). During this week, we honor what libraries and librarians do and promote use of the library.
This year, National Library Week is being chaired by Judy Blume. Ms. Blume is the author of several books for kids and was my absolute favorite author when I was in grade and middle school. She was the author whose words captured my attention and got me interested in reading for pleasure. Her characters are often kids in real life situations. The story lines are serious and funny and I would read certain books over and over again. She also writes for different aged kids -- about different themes, so her books were in my book bag from 3rd grade through 8th!
