On Thursday I received over 35 emails from fourth grade students after they accessed their new Google Account for the first time. New Haven Public Schools' has set up a network that provides every student and teaching staff member a Google Account. With this networked account, students can use their own email account, calendar and Google Drive.
The Google Drive allows users to create and store a variety of documents, spreadsheets, slide shows and more. The best feature of this cloud computing component is that users can create, edit and work on what is stored in their Google Drive from any computer with internet access. Our students in grades 6-8 have already been using their Google Drives this year in collaboration with their classroom teachers. Grades 4 & 5 will be coming into the library for the next two weeks for specific lessons on using various programs, sharing documents, emailing attachments and more.
