Over the past two weeks in both libraries, our students watched several book trailers during their library visit to learn about newly published literature and informational text books and help Ms. Sendroff decide if they would be good additions to the school libraries. Students also learned how to disect aspects of advertising and marketing in these book trailers to figure out how they persuade, entertain and/or inform viewers.
Students were instructed to consider the trailers' imagery and sound to determine factors that grabbed their attention and interest. For example, by focusing attention to the audio tracks of certain book trailers, students identified three separate sounds they heard: music, sound effects and voice-overs. Discussion on voice overs was a huge part of students' conversations who pointed out the difference in timbre and pitch and how it made them feel about the book.
